Bosch HFM5 Mass Air Flow System

 

New for 2005! A mass air flow system that replaces the stock small and restrictive flapper door air flow meter of the 84-89 Carrera 3.2. Designed to be the best and most accurate cost no object system ever developed. All carbon fiber housing with integrated computer optimized measurement venturi utilizes the latest ultra fast and precise Bosch HFM5 sensor as used in the current BMW E46 M3. Large 90 mm carbon fiber intake velocity stack into the large straight through opening ensures unrestricted flow into your motor no matter what your modifications. In addition to the 15-20 hp gain, throttle response is significantly improved, along with a 10% reduction in fuel consumption. Average reduction of two full seconds in lap times measured on a 100 second track.

With the stock Bosch air flow meter, the entire engine breathes through a mechanical spring loaded barn door within a small 64mm x 43mm rectangular opening - a total area of only 27 sq. cm. In comparison our MAF system has a throat area of over 55 sq. cm., more than double the area and without a spring loaded door to restrict it. In addition, the precision and data buffering of the system allows the use of more aggressive camshafts that would normally confuse the stock flapper meter because of the strong intake tract pulsations, causing stalling, low rpm instability, and excess emissions. Imagine the power potential to be gained by not being limited to stock flapper friendly emissions cams!

Technical features that differentiate our system from any other MAF kit ever produced:

  • Perfect start up and idle, with greatly enhanced low and mid rpm torque and throttle response, without any of the driveability and power robbing fuel mixture issues of other systems.
  • Utilizes the lastest ultra fast Bosch HFM5 sensor along with integrated turbulence stabilizing lattice
  • Built in digital microcontroller performs all HFM signal conversion to the DME unit
  • Integrated intake air temperature sensor ensures proper air mass measurement, in addition to providing active ignition map trim correction, ensuring max power at cool air temperatures, yet trimming down ignition tables at high intake temperatures, providing anti-knock protection.
  • Barometric pressure correction provides precise air mass measurement for accuracy at changing elevations, and variations in engine compartment pressure at speed or from rear spoilers
  • All carbon fiber construction and the elimination of the heavy factory meter, provides further weight reduction at the rear of car
